When To Take a Break From Food Trials?

It is heartbreaking to see your baby going through an acute FPIES (food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome) reaction. Over time, repeated vomiting after eating can lead to food aversions.

⠀⠀⠀
This is nature’s survival mechanism kicking in...we are wired to stay away from the foods that make us sick. It is ok to take a break from food trials:

  • When your child needs a break.

  • When you need a break.

⠀⠀⠀⠀
If your baby struggles with food aversion, speak to your doctor about having #OT (occupational therapist) and/or #SLP (speech language pathologist) involved. They can make a world of difference.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Food trials can be very exhausting, especially if your baby reacted to several foods trials back-to-back. FPIES mamas, it is ok to take a break. You did something really brave. It is ok for you to feel sad, it is ok to feel disappointed. It is ok to grieve the loss of food freedom. There is power in acknowledging the emotions that wear you down. Be compassionate with yourself during this process. Take care of your own needs, reach for support and fill your cup.
