This is gonna be a geek post. Let’s dive into the stats - broken down by food and country. Percentage of FPIES kiddos who outgrow:

Dairy

  • 60% by age 1, 75% by age 2 and 85% by age 3 (Israel).

  • 35% by age 2, 70% by age 3, 85% by age 5 (USA).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • 27% by 6 months, 42% by 8 months, 64% by 10 months (Korea).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Median age is 5.1 to 6.7 years (USA).⠀

Soy

  • 75% by 6 months, 91% by 8 months, 92% by 10 months (Korea).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • 35% by age 2, 70% by age 3, 85% by age 5 (USA).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Rice

  • Median age 4.7 years (USA).⠀

Oats

  • Median age 4 years (USA).⠀⠀⠀

Notice that there is a difference depending on country. Israel and Korea have a quicker rate of tolerance development compared to the USA. We don’t exactly know why yet. Could be due to how the studies were designed, how healthcare providers practice, differences in international approaches on how to manage FPIES.
