Food Allergy Parenting Is a Balancing Act

Anxiety is like built-in spidey senses designed to keep us safe. It keeps us alert and it makes us think twice before we react. There is a lot to be learned when we are able to keep the “emotional” part of anxiety in check.

It drives us to plan ahead and be prepared for a potentially dangerous reaction. That is very conducive when it comes to managing food allergies.

Anxiety or fear becomes paralyzing when it continues in overdrive mode despite the threat being minimized. This is when you ask yourself:

  • Have I done everything within my control to minimize the risk?

  • Is this a real threat or a perceived threat?

It is a tough balancing act - keeping safe AND living life to your fullest potential.
